Jesus told us “the meek shall inherit the earth” (Mt.5:5).
… Now that seems to totally contradict the way things appear.
It appears like the world belongs to the aggressive… the self-promoting… the hustlers.
But not so…
The future of the world belongs to the meek.
… Hard to believe… if we equate meekness with weakness.
But meekness is actually a special kind of strength.
Moses was meeker than anyone on the face of the earth (Nu.12:3).
But he was not weak. Nor was he passive.
He was a strong and powerful man.
He had to be to lead over two million people through the wilderness… while contending with the ongoing threat of rebellion, famine, and surrounding armies.
And the secret of his strength was in his meekness… which is evident in the way he handled different situations…
When summoned to go before Pharaoh, Moses did not depend on his own abilities… but the power and faithfulness of God.
When other prophets began to speak to the people, Moses did not feel the need to claim an exclusive place…. he trusted the Lord to sort it out.
And when Aaron and Miriam challenged his position, he wasn’t vindictive… he let God deal with them.
Moses could do this because… in short… he had the strength — which comes by faith — to control himself, submit to God’s will as it unfolded, and focus on what God had called him to do.
And that’s a strength we all need…
Overwhelming challenges surely face each of us…
Challenges that seek to chase us back to a safer, more secure path…
But with faith in Christ, the Greater Moses, the power of meekness can be yours.
And you can live as one who WILL inherit the earth.
