When Jesus stood before Pilate, He told him:
“My kingdom is not of this world…” (Jn.18:36).
Many today take this to mean that Christ’s kingdom is entirely spiritual… and therefore it’s otherworldly.
But that’s not what Jesus was saying.
Jesus was telling Pilate that His kingdom has a power source that’s beyond the world…
… because the kingdom of God would not come by way of political power, but through the power of the Spirit… as He transforms the lives of His followers.
The overspiritualization of Jesus’s words in our day has proven disastrous… because it’s given believers reason to disconnect God’s truth from the world in which we live.
And as a result, our world is being shaped by falsehoods.
The only way to change this is to see that while the kingdom does not come from this world, it’s certainly to have its influence here…
… as we work and pray and apply God’s Word in such a way that His kingdom would come and His will would be done on earth as it is in heaven.
